Mentoring is central to academic science and to the success of our research communities. Therefore, it is important to come together to learn and practice the principles of mentorship. Thus, we invite all department members to a 90-minute workshop on mentoring, led by the incredible Dr. Suzanne Young (GSAS Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Professional Development).
This workshop is for graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff as well, so all are welcome to come.
This year’s workshop will be held on Tues., June 17th in SCL 110 starting at 1:00 pm;
Ice cream sandwiches and popsicles will be set up by 12:30 pm to help you beat the summer heat!
To help our planning, please RSVP here or by simply scanning the QR code.
This workshop will be based on the creamy richness of successful mentoring: clear and frequent communication, collaboratively developed goals, and maintaining a sympathetic, open stance towards mentees. We will also add sprinkles of how to pursue inclusive mentoring that recognizes the diverse backgrounds of mentees and promotes a growth mindset for you and your mentee.
If you have questions, please contact Chemistry Events (chemistry.events@yale.edu), and if you have complaints about sundae metaphors, you can complain to Patrick Holland (patrick.holland@yale.edu) and bring your own dessert.
LOCATION: Sterling Chemistry Lab (SCL), Room 110
