Work Requests

Ed Ginter, Research & Development Technician

Ed works directly with faculty and researchers to design and modify existing and new scientific instruments, components, equipment, and systems. He installs new detailed lab cabinetry and support apparatus using plastic, glass, and wood.

There is no charge for labor, only material. His service is available to all departments, faculty, and staff in the sciences.

Chemistry Machine Shop

A teaching shop

Shop Manager David W. Johnson runs the state-of-the-art machine shop in the Wright Lab (WL) 100, where students, faculty, and staff learn to construct or modify research instrumentation. Access is strictly limited to those who have completed the shop course.

Gibbs Machine Shop

A production shop

The shop, managed by Vincent Bernardo, provides expert conceptual design, custom manufacturing, engineering, and prototyping to enhance research within Chemistry and the broader Faculty of Arts Sciences. Their expertise allows researchers to develop and fabricate designs for custom equipment in support of cutting-edge research.

Chemistry Glass Shop

All of your glass needs, whether it’s standard catalog items, modifications of existing glassware, or new designs, can be acquired from the Yale Glass Shop and will be more affordable than using other sources. The shop is staffed by two glassblowers, Daryl Smith and Preston Smith.

Request work

  1. Log in to PPMS.
  2. Follow these instructions.
  3. Having trouble logging in? Email Chemistry Finances and copy Kelly Kellerman. In the email, provide your name, netid, and professor’s name.

Advantages of using PPMS

  1. See your requests and scheduled machine times in one place across all cores.
  2. No need to provide a COA to each service provider. It is maintained by the Finance Office.
  3. The Science Cores have the correct COA information to bill users.
