Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Chemistry related to Energy Sciences 

Overview

The Energy Sciences Institute (ESI), in partnership with the Department of Chemistry, Yale University, New Haven, CT, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level rank to commence as early as July 1, 2027. The ESI focuses on performing fundamental research that is connected to solving problems connected to the energy sector and is one of seven multidisciplinary research institutes at Yale University’s West Campus. Institute faculty hold a primary appointment in a physical science or engineering department.

Currently, we seek to identify candidates whose research interests and accomplishments align with the Institute and the Chemistry Department. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and an outstanding record of research that demonstrates originality in addressing significant questions in the study of energy broadly defined. Applicants conducting research in materials chemistry with applications related to the conversion of solar energy into storable chemical energy, as well as those with interest in the development of transitional technologies, are especially encouraged to apply.  Candidates will need to demonstrate that they can teach undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry.

Mass Spectrometrist

Overview

Yale Chemical and Biophysical Instrumentation Center (CBIC) is a core facility within the Yale Department of Chemistry that provides access to a broad range of advanced instrumentation for chemistry, biochemistry, and related research, including mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, solution biophysics, and optical spectroscopy. The Center’s instrumentation is overseen by a professional scientific staff who maintain and operate the facilities, train researchers, and provide technical and scientific support for research projects across Yale.

Under the supervision of the CBIC Director, the core scientist in this position will serve as the Center’s primary expert in the field of mass spectrometry and oversee the technical and scientific activities of the mass spectrometry facility. The successful candidate will maintain and operate CBIC mass spectrometers, train and support users, provide expert guidance on experimental design and data analysis, develop and optimize analytical methods and protocols, and perform service measurements and custom analyses.

The Mass Spectrometrist filling this role will work closely with faculty, students, postdoctoral researchers, and other research staff to develop and execute experiments, troubleshoot challenging applications, and interpret complex data. The person in this position will also contribute to the selection, acquisition, and installation of new instruments and upgrades, as well as providing scientific and technical support for other CBIC instrumentation as needed.

As a member of CBIC’s scientific staff, the Mass Spectrometrist will have opportunities to contribute to collaborative research, grant proposals, reports, presentations, publications, training activities, and the continued development of the Center’s research and educational mission.
