Title: The Influences of Redox-Active Ligands on Nitrogen Reduction Catalysts
This thesis demonstrates the effect of redox-active ligands on nitrogen reduction catalysts and metal nitrides. Notably redox-active ligands are able to tune the first N-H bond strength, which enables reduction of metal nitrides at relatively mild potentials. Here we report a molybdenum porphyrin system capable of catalytic N2 to NH3 conversion and a family of rhenium nitrides bearing PNP ligands where the secondary supporting ligand tunes the reactivity at the metal nitride.
