Online Placement Exam

Incoming first-year students wishing to take a higher-level course such as CHEM 1700, 1740, 2200, or 3320 are required to demonstrate their proficiency by completing an online placement exam. Only individuals who have scored a 5 on the AP Chemistry exam, or equivalent, and have a strong background in math and physics should start their studies in a higher-level course. Nevertheless, any student can take the exam. Anyone uncertain about their preparation is encouraged to take the exam, as it provides the best measure of a student’s readiness to enter the wide variety of courses offered to first year.

The exam is a closed-book, 65-minute timed, multiple-choice test, which students can complete anytime between 9:00 a.m. (EST) on Wednesday, July 1, to 11:00 a.m. (EST) on Friday, July 31, 2026. A standard, non-graphing calculator is allowed. Students are advised to review general chemistry beforehand

Check for your test scores after August 5 on Canvas – Post ‘Em app.
