Ferroptosis and metabolism: a blueprint for precision diets

Event time:
January 31, 2024 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm
Location:
SCL 160 & Livestream See map
Event description:

Join Yale Chemistry for a Chemical Biology Seminar with Brent R. Stockwell, professor of biological sciences and chemistry,  director of the Columbia Genome Center Chemical Probe Synthesis Facility, and co-director of the Columbia Genome Center High-Throughput Screening at Columbia University.

Ferroptosis is form of cell death driven by peroxidation of specific lipids. I will discuss the history and key regulators of ferroptosis, as well as emerging mechanisms and therapeutic applications. I will describe how my lab found that lipid peroxidation in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane is a key process driving ferroptosis, and how metabolism is tightly intertwined with ferroptosis regulation. Finally, I will discuss my lab’s recent work examining how diet can control ferroptosis and be used as new treatment paradigm for specific cancers.

Faculty Hosts: Jason Crawford Stacy Malaker
