Science on Saturdays is back! Our first post-pandemic event is scheduled for Saturday, April 8. The featured speaker will be Dr. Albert Ko, an infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist from the Yale School of Public Health, who will talk about “How We Use Science to Protect People from Epidemics.”

This award-winning lecture series is aimed at middle school students and their families, bringing the excitement of research and the passion of Yale scientists to the New Haven community. Each event involves a lecture by a Yale professor and hands-on science demonstrations run by Yale students. Lectures are geared for 7th graders and up but bring the whole family! Refreshments will be served.

Parking: Parking is available at the Prospect-Sachem Garage. You can GPS to the garage. Please note that you enter the garage by first entering the Yale Ingalls Ice Rink parking lot and turning right.  From there, follow the signs to the Sterling Chemistry Laboratory. 

Featured Speaker: Albert Icksang Ko, MD

Dr. Albert Icksang Ko is the Raj and Indra Nooyi Professor of Public Health at the Yale School of Public Health and a Collaborating Researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazilian Ministry of Health.

His research centers on the health problems that have emerged due to rapid urbanization and social inequity. He and his team have mobilized research capacity to develop and implement community-based interventions for the current COVID-19 pandemic and other epidemics. Dr. Ko advises the Governor and the State on its pandemic prevention and control plan and supports the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in its COVID-19 response in Brazil.

Dubbed “the Dr. Fauci of Connecticut” by Governor Ned Lamont, Dr. Ko has provided his expertise on various news programs throughout the pandemic.

About Science on Saturdays

Established in 2005, Science on Saturdays has shared the work of over 75 Yale faculty with the public. The program has been organized and hosted by Professor Kurt W. Zilm since 2010 with the help of the Yale Office of New Haven Affairs’ Pathways to Science initiative. Past lectures can be viewed on our YouTube channel Science on Saturdays. All members of the public, especially the Yale community, alumni, and their families, are welcome to attend.
