Event description:

Today we are faced with an unprecedented series of challenges — global climate change, food insecurity, rapid loss of biodiversity, and new and evolving diseases that are threatening both the health of the planet as well as human health and well-being. Plants shape our environment and are the source of our food, play central roles in biogeochemical cycles, are sources of medicines and novel materials, and sustain our existence. Without plants, life on earth would cease to exist. At Yale, there is growing interest and investment in carrying out basic and applied research in the plant sciences ranging from synthetic biology to understanding ecosystems. This symposium brings together researchers from across campus who will highlight the diversity of plant research carried out at Yale, emphasizing both basic and applied research. In addition, we are delighted to host Dr. Pamela Ronald, Distinguished Professor, University of California, Davis, who will give a plenary talk entitled ‘Engineering crops for resilience in a changing climate’. The symposium is open to the Yale community, and admission is free. We ask attendees to register upon arrival. For more information, please see attached poster.

Sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Plant Sciences at Yale and the Yale Planetary Solutions Project.
