Title: Studies on the Structural Basis of Oxygenic Photosynthesis
Summary: Oxygenic photosynthesis supports the global biome through its ability to capture and store light energy using the membrane protein complexes photosystem II (PSII) and photosystem I (PSI). During my thesis research, I’ve used cryo-EM methods to study the structural basis for how these enzymes perform the initial light capture and subsequent photochemistry central to photosynthesis. My main focus has been on the water oxidation reaction performed by PSII.
