Mark Johnson

The Journal of Physical Chemistry has honored Professor Mark Johnson with an entire issue dedicated to him: “Mark A. Johnson Festschrift: A Periscopic View of Complex Molecular Phenomena.”

A festschrift (German for “celebration writing”) is a collection of original scholarly essays contributed by colleagues, collaborators, and former students to honor a respected academic. The publication is considered a hallmark of a distinguished career.

As a leader in the field of physical chemistry, Johnson—the Arthur T. Kemp Professor of Chemistry—has made a lasting impact in the field of cluster ion spectroscopy and the connected fundamental aspects of ion structure, solvation, and dynamics.

He has mentored dozens of students and postdoctoral researchers in the field of physical chemistry.

Johnson has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards and honors, including election as a fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was inducted into the National Academy of Sciences in 2014.
