Turning CO2 and Wastewater into Something Useful - Wang lab in Yale News

April 7, 2021

Yale News has featured research from the lab of Hailiang Wang, Associate Professor of Chemistry, that was recently published in Nature Sustainability. The published catalytic reaction converts carbon dioxide and nitrate in wastewater into methylamine. Methylamine is a highly-valued chemical used in the synthesis of many pharmaceutical and agrochemical products. It is currently produced by industry using fossil fuels with high-temperature and high-pressure chemical reactions.

Hailiang produced this work in collaboration with colleagues from the Southern University of Science and Technology in China. Interestingly, it was in part inspired by an email exchange with Yale alumnus Robert Tuttle.
