Tuesday, August 22

Fundamentals of Teaching Chemistry: Session I - 9:00am-10:30am, CRB 123 (Breakfast provided). This session will focus on basic concepts in pedagogy and will expose you to current research in teaching and learning.

Friday, August 25

Yale Chemistry Symposium - 9:00am-7:00pm (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner provided). This annual symposium is centered around research presentations by graduate students in the various parts of the department, and includes a keynote lecture by faculty member Sarah Slavoff.

Monday, August 28

Fundamentals of Teaching Chemistry: Session II - 10:00am-11:30am, CRB 123. This session will focus on the role of the TA in the classroom. We will cover mentorship, balancing research, classes, and teaching, and will incorporate panel discussion.

Teaching at Yale Day - 2:00pm-6:30pm (Dinner provided). This Yale-wide event will familiarize you with Yale policies and guidelines for teaching with effectiveness and with attention to diversity in the classroom. All incoming students are required to attend.

Tuesday, August 29

Fundamentals of Teaching Chemistry: Session III - 10:00am-12:00pm, CRB 123. This session will feature a microteaching activity that will allow you to teach a small lesson in either General or Organic Chemistry to your peers and garner feedback.

Joint Teaching/Safety Lunch - 12:00pm-1:00pm.

Safety Training Fair - 11:00am-1:30pm, SCL 3rd Floor Lounge. There will be a departmental safety training event consisting of a number of task-specific stations and fire extinguisher training. Fill our your “safety passport” for a chance at a prize!

Course Advising with Divisional Faculty Advisors - 2:00pm-3:00pm, Various Locations. Final checkup on choosing your fall courses. Please have your Divisional Advisor Approval Forms filled out prior to meeting with faculty.
